FOLLOW ME

These words were spoken by Jesus when He called the 12 disciples, but the same invitation has been open in generations past and is still open today.

Following Jesus is an act of trust in Christ. It means adhering to His teachings and instructions, following Him wherever He leads. It means surrendering to His will and promoting His cause. It means denying ourselves and taking up our cross, walking day by day in faith and obedience to Him.

When the disciples were called, they left their jobs and livelihoods to follow Jesus and they did so without hesitation. The rich young man in Matthew 19 on the other hand, when told by Jesus to sell his possessions and then come follow Jesus, he was saddened. He loved his riches and wasn’t willing to give up what he had to follow Jesus.

It is true that sacrifice comes with being a follower of Christ, but oh how the reward is SO much greater!!

“For whoever wants to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. For what good will it do a person if he gains the whole world, but forfeits his soul?” (Matthew‬ ‭16:25‬-26)

“Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; the one who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”” (John‬ ‭8:12‬)
