LIGHT SHINES IN THE DARKNESS COLLECTION
A collection of brown and gray tones in acrylic on paper. Although these pieces are mainly dark and moody, they celebrate the presence of light even in the darkness. Such is a picture of how the world can be viewed, that despite it sometimes seeming like we’re living through the darkest times, there is light that shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it!
This light is the light of Christ. He is the light of the world (John 8:12) that came down from heaven to bring light into a spiritually dark world. He brought the good news of God’s salvation and His life serves as a light to all people. Those that follow Him will have the light of life (John 8:12) and are to go out and live as children of light (Ephesians 5:8), shining like the stars in the sky among a crooked generation (Philippians 2:15).
In the Bible, light and darkness are often used as symbols of good and evil. Light represents life, and darkness represents evil, sin and unbelief, which all lead to death. It says that the darkness has not overcome the light in John 1:5 because evil cannot overpower Jesus. He said that in this world we will have trouble, but to take heart (or have courage) because He has overcome the world” (John 16:33 NIV). Evil will not prevail, but the victory is in Christ. He is the bearer of light and giver of life, and we can find peace and hope despite all of the darkness in this world when we put our trust in Him.
