OVERFLOW COLLECTION

When the future seems uncertain, it can often leave us afraid and anxious, and even overwhelmed. We yearn for answers, thinking up solutions for outcomes that don’t even exist and we’re left with the realization that we cannot control what our future holds. But, it’s during these moments of hopelessness and worry that we need to place our trust in God.

When we do this, he fills us with joy and peace. Not joy that is a result of favorable circumstances, rather, a gladness of heart that comes from knowing God, abiding in Christ, and being filled with the Holy Spirit. A joy that can be present even in our suffering or sadness. He is working all things for the good of those who love him (Romans 8:28) even when we can’t see it. In his presence there is fullness of joy and pleasures forevermore (Psalm 16:11). The peace we’ll have is a peace that surpasses all understanding, a perfect peace that only God can give. Hope will overflow, and all of a sudden, we’ll be able to endure those moments of uncertainty with confidence in the goodness and sovereignty of God. Rest can be found in the unwavering love and eternal promises of God.

Paul prayed in Roman’s 15:13, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

This is my prayer today, that when the world around us presents uncertainty we turn to God, and by the power of the Holy Spirit, draw from his well of hope until we’re overflowing in hope, joy and peace!
